ƒBonnie Boatwright and Lesa Dooley attended the homecoming at Pentecost Chapel Church celebrating 100 years Sunday and the singing in the afternoon. I saw many friends and relatives there and enjoyed being with them. Oscar Taylor was as spry as anyone at 89 years of age and got up and gave a testimony. One of my classmates, Sylvia Thomas Esco, from the Class of 1956 of Oglethorpe County High School, was there and I enjoyed seeing her. The Woods brothers, Sammy, Wallace, and James, Lamar Aaron, and others were there playing the mandolin, guitar, bass fiddle, with Gloria Roberts at the piano, singing beautiful old time hymns and many others also sang specials. Wayne Norman and James Woods did a wonderful job of leading the singing. There were several others there from Wilkes County. My cousins, Harland and Martha Crane from Carnesville, were there. Tye Sorrow, who was pastor of Pentecost for many years, brought the homecoming message after the history of the church was given by Butch Roberts. Barbara Palmer and Gail Aaron told of all the pastors and evangelists that the church had from 1908-2008.
