Eighth graders endure testing; FBLA members attend rally

Eighth grade students took the ACT EXPLORE test last week. The EXPLORE test helps students prepare for the ACT college entrance exam they will take in high school. The test shows whether or not students are on track for college while giving teachers ample time to focus on areas of need.

Eat at Pizza Hut Tuesday nights in October from 5:30 until 8:00 to support W-WMS! Twenty percent of the total purchases will be donated to our school. We greatly appreciate Pizza Hut and our community for their support.

Ten W-WMS students attended a Georgia Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) motivational rally in Macon, September 25. Students learned about upcoming events and experienced motivational speaker and author, Rhett Laubach. About 6,700 attended this statewide event.

The W-WMS football team traveled to Louisville, September 24, and won 16-6. The play of the game was when Cory Murray caught a pass with no one to beat. He scored six points and then went for two and got it. In addition, Courtney Stripling, Jalen Turner, and Brian Hardigree had interceptions. In the second half, the defense stopped Louisville's running game, and scored a safety.

There was excellent pitching by Dominique Welborn and Paige "Grace" McAvoy. Lauren Chafin had an in-the-park home run, bringing in two other runners. We congratulate the team on a 5-0 record.

The Cross Country team had a home meet September 22 against Thomson and Franklin schools. The top middle school runner was Dominique Jenkins with 31 minutes and 23 seconds over three miles. Keyuanna Reid finished at 32 minutes and 16 seconds, improving three minutes and 17 seconds. Great job runners!

On October 1, W-WMS will host a pep rally at 2:40 p.m. in the gym. There will be a variety of games, band dances, and the always popular class competition. The middle school band will perform "Jaws," "MK," "Hey," "Go Tigers," and other selections. At the pep rally the football players, cheerleaders, softball players, and cross country runners will be introduced and will be allowed to say a few words.
