Lady Tigers improve to 3-0 (or better) in region play Never mind that the Washington- Wilkes Lady Tiger softball team got off to a rocky start against some higher class and tough competition this year - the girls have now put away three straight region wins and are undefeated in 4-A competition. That situation changed on Tuesday when W-W hosted Warren County's Screaming Devils in a doubleheader. Though results were not available in time for this issue, it figures that the Lady Tigers added to their margin. Warren had previously lost miserably to Lincoln County and the Tigers beat Lincoln handily last week. Last Tuesday, September 23, the Lady Tigers traveled to Lincolnton and came away with a 14-0 win. Cayla Gilland pitched a no-hit shutout for the Tigers striking out five Red Devil batters. The game was called after four innings of play. Ashley West hit her first home run of the season. Leading hitters for the Tigers were Lindsey Guin (3-4, rbi), Yakira Banks (3-4, 3 rbi), Ashley West (3-4, hr, 3 rbi), Nikki Freeman (3-4, 3b), Lauren Harrison (2-3, 2 rbi), Alaina Webber (1-3), Gabby Lavender (1-3), and Amber Warren (1-3, 2b). On Thursday, September 25, the Lady Tigers defeated Aquinas at Ashley Park by the score of 9-0. Cayla Gilland pitched her second complete game shutout striking out nine batters. Nikki Freeman hit two home runs for the Tigers giving her a total of four for the season. Leading hitters for the Tigers were Lindsey Guin (1-4), Yakira Banks (1-4), Nikki Freeman (2-4, 2 hr, 3 rbi), and Cayla Gilland (1-3). The Lady Tigers will be hosting Lincoln County today beginning at 5 p.m. |
