The historic Washington Presbyterian Church is undergoing a renovation of its steeple, with new roofing, new wood where needed, and louvers replaced. A second quarterly Chamber After-Hours is set for October 23 at one of the city's newest businesses, Retro Cinema & Books. The drop-in event is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 114 Spring Street. The Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce will also hold its annual community banquet December 4 at the Pope Center, starting at 6:30 p.m. with a meet-and-greet, with dinner and an awards presentation starting at 7. Washington Rotary Club members participated in reading aloud to classes at Washington-Wilkes Primary School on October 2 as part of "Read for the Record" day. Last Friday, the Washington-Wilkes Tigers traveled to Sparta to take on the Hancock Central Bulldogs. The Tigers played hard the whole game and won with a final score of 49-16. The Washington first string gave up no points; the Bulldogs' first string scored its two touchdowns on the Tiger JV players who put up valiant effort. More...
Funeral services for Joyce Ann Hall Bowen, 55, of Rayle were held Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Sardis Baptist Church, Rayle, with Rev. Jim Newsome and Rev. John Mark Carpenter officiating. Van Alexander Bufford Allen Noah Bufford Mr. and Mrs. Van Allen Bufford Jr. of Tignall announce the birth of twin sons, Van Alexander and Allen Noah, on Sunday, September 28, at Trinity Hospital in Augusta.
