Public hearing set for Rusher St. redevelopment plan
The City of Washington will be holding public hearings for two parts of the Southwest Washington Redevelopment Plan Monday evening just prior to the City Council meeting at The Pope Center.
At 5:30 p.m., the public is invited to attend a hearing on the Community Development Block Grant to "eliminate slum and blight in the Rusher Street CDBG Target Area," north of Hospital Drive, to the proposed Graham Street extension; between Whitehall Street to the west and the railroad right-of-way to the east.
The plan includes complete site redevelopment; acquisition of private property for the re-platting of Rusher Street for single-family housing; five permanent tenant relocations; demolition and clearance of 14 dilapidated structures; and a re-aligned Rusher Street construction with utility, water, sewer, and pedestrian improvements.
The hearing will include discussions on how the $800,000 will be spent and how it will benefit citizens of the area.
At 5:45, a second public hearing is set for the Community Home Investment Program. The CHIP program will rehabilitate four owner occupied stick-built homes for low-income households in an effort to provide citizens an opportunity to bring their homes up to code using CHIP and private funds. The homes must be located in the target area.
The public is invited to both hearings, and anyone with special needs relating to disability may contact Mayor Willie Burns at 706-678- 3277 prior to October 10.
