Frances Wheelis WOM group meets Oct. 6 at Edwards home
The Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of First Baptist Church met in the home of Cheryl Edwards Monday evening, October 6.
Mrs. Edwards welcomed everyone and Susan Pope offered the blessing for a delicious salad supper and dessert, all prepared by the hostess.
After the meal everyone gathered in the living room where Mrs. Edwards introduced Rita Verdery who presented a most informative, interesting and inspiring program on a women's ministry mission trip that she took with others to Haiti. As she showed many slides of the areas they visited and the makeshift churches, she related many of the issues and hardships these women face in day-to-day living. She also shared an update received after the hurricane that battered Haiti so badly of the devastation and the flooding of many areas.
After her program Melanie Wells conducted a short business meeting. She opened with the WMU Watchword. Upcoming events were noted.
Kay Nelms, mission action chairman, updated members on the coats for Romania project. After other projects were discussed, members voted to make a love offering to help with the needs of the Haitian women's ministry as well as an offering to assist a newly-planted missionary couple in Alberta, Canada.
Teresa Bishop offered the missionary prayer calendar focusing on Ephesians 1:1-14 and work in North Africa. After names of missionaries were given and the many with special needs in the community were noted, Jackie Gillispie led in prayer.
Members present were Teresa Bishop, Cheryl Edwards, Jackie Gillispie, Pat Grimaud, Gail Hunter, Nancy Madden, Louise McClearen, Priscilla Moore, Kay Nelms, Susan Pope, Melanie Wells and newest member, Shelby Caddell.
