'Nancy Hart' attends luncheon meeting of Kettle Creek DAR
Lillie Crowe welcomes guest speaker Sara Hunt Lesseur to the Kettle Creek DAR meeting. Sara Hunt Lesseur of Hartwell was guest speaker at the Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution luncheon meeting Monday, September 15, at the Woman's Club.
Mrs. Lesseur, regent of the John Benson Chapter NSDAR in Hart County, was introduced by Lillie Crowe.
Mrs. Lesseur has ties to Wilkes County as she has traced her ancestry to the original settlers of Elbert, Hart and Wilkes County. She is the daughter of the late William Kendall Hunt of Hart County and the late Minnie Bell Hall Hunt of Metasville.
For her presentation Mrs. Lesseur was dressed in Revolutionary attire and carried a musket as she portrayed the part of Nancy Hart. She introduced the Kettle Creek Chapter to Mrs. Hart's life in Revolutionary Wilkes County using household items typical of the period to explain everyday chores Nancy Hart would have been accustomed to performing. Members found her information delightfully entertaining and informative.
The Chapter looks forward to her visit to the Mary Willis Library during the Kettle Creek anniversary weekend in February.
Anneice Butler, co-regent, and Oleta McAvoy, acting chaplain, opened the meeting of the 2008- 2009 year with the ritual and flag ceremony assisted by Anna Gunter, flag chairman.
Mrs. Butler welcomed members and guests and expressed her gratitude to the hostesses for the table decorations.
