Tiger cheerleaders place first in competition
WWCHS Varsity Cheerleaders competing in the Morgan County Cheerleading Invitational included (front row, l-r) Susan Penvose, Philesha Wilkinson, Jasmine Hulin, Mariah Crew, Kea Walton, (middle) Dauri Binns, Courtney Gunter, Jessica Murphy, Taylor Yancey, Ashley Jackson, Ansley Newsome, Brittany Guin, (back) Natasia Fanning, Mary Ellen Murphy, Kristin Lukich, and Tatyana Simmonds. The Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School Varsity Football/Competition Cheerleading Squad received first place in the Class A division at the Morgan County Cheerleading Invitational on September 27.
Coaches Angela McGill and Lisa Newsome are "extremely pleased with the squad's performance and dedication to becoming the best squad possible." The girls work diligently every afternoon to strengthen their weaknesses, while at the same time, working to increase the difficulty level and execution of their routine.
On September 20, the squad competed in the Oconee County Invitational and the stunt group consisting of Ashley Jackson, Kristin Lukich, Jessica Murphy, Mary Ellen Murphy, and Philesha Wilkinson won the "Lib Off." The group was up against other stunt groups from 2A, 3A, 4A, and co-ed squads.
