SOUTHERN FRIED FOOTBALL

There are big games all over Dixieland this week, beginning with the Clemson-Wake Forest clash tonight in Winston-Salem. This ACC contest is just the appetizer for the entrée of important conference games that follow on Saturday.

LSU at Florida - Florida must win to avoid a second conference loss. An LSU victory would put the Gators in a tough position in the SEC East race. I believe that Florida will put it all together this week. Florida by 6.

Tennessee at Georgia - The Dawgs were upset by Alabama, but Tennessee seems to be heading for its worst season in years. Georgia by 17.

South Carolina at Kentucky - Both teams played well last week. The Gamecocks beat Ole Miss on the road while the Wildcats nearly upset Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Kentucky's defense is too tough for S.C.'s erratic offense. Kentucky by 4.

Vandy at Miss. State - The Commodores should be able to avoid the trap being set by the Bulldogs and remain unbeaten. Vandy by 8.

Clemson at Wake Forest - The Tigers cannot afford another conference loss. A Deacon win gives Wake the inside track for the Atlantic Division Championship. Talent overcomes coaching in this one. Clemson by 10.

Notre Dame at North Carolina - Tar Heel head man Butch Davis will have his boys ready for the Irish invasion. Notre Dame will provide a difficult test, but UNC should prevail at home. North Carolina by 7.

Gardner-Webb at Georgia Tech - Division 1-AA Gardner- Webb provides welcome relief for the improving Jackets. Georgia Tech by 35.

By the way, did you know that the non-BCS Mountain West Conference is 6-1 vs. the PAC Ten this season?
