There is no better place

TO THE EDITOR:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you, The News- Reporter, and all the citizens of Washington-Wilkes for their support of the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Celebrity Waiters Dinner.

This year's event raised over $5,000 which will be put back into our hospital to serve the people of Washington-Wilkes and surrounding areas.

We always appreciate the publicity given to us in your paper.

In addition, we wish to thank Dr. Stan Coe for his emceeing the program with his great class and wit and also providing our dinner music. Thanks to Rev. Gale Seibert for offering the blessing before the meal, to the W-WCHS cafeteria staff for the delicious meal, and to the custodial staff who graciously helped with the clean-up afterwards.

We extend our appreciation to the Wilkes County Board of Education and Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School Principal Steve Echols for their support.

There are many members of the Auxiliary who worked tirelessly to make this event happen and to name them would take too much space. To omit one would surely be an injustice. Truly it was a labor of love for many.

The celebrity waiters came prepared with all types of gimmicks to gather as many tips as possible and each met his/her challenge with great enthusiasm. Without them, the event just would not be.

The merchants of Washington- Wilkes were so gracious to provide wonderful door prizes which were a hit to each recipient.

Last but certainly not least, we extend our gratitude to Chris Shupe, a.k.a. Elvis, and his wife, Kim, who gave their evening free of charge because of their belief that an event such as this is so worthwhile. He entertained all royally. And special thanks to Bernie Pope who graciously housed the Shupe family, thus eliminating another expense the Auxiliary would have incurred.

We all say there is no better place to be than Washington-Wilkes and once again, the people of Washington Wilkes have proven that to be "the whole truth."

Thank you all.
