W-WMS encouraged students to wear blue on the Wilkes County school system's "Blue Out" day in anticipation of the varsity football game against Lincoln County Friday. Many students went beyond merely wearing blue clothing by showing up with blue hair and painted faces. Two students from each homeroom were selected to be judged by the school administration as having the most "Blue Out" spirit. Kelsey Brooke, eighth grade, placed first and Ramona Lott, also eighth grade, placed second. The girls were awarded Washington-Wilkes bumper tags and goody bags.
Students participated Thursday in a statewide health survey designed to collect information about a variety of topics including alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, as well as school violence, climate, and nutrition. Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education, the online survey was completely anonymous to encourage students to answer the questions truthfully.
W-WMS kicked off its cookie dough fall fund-raiser with a student assembly Thursday. Sales will provide for programs that are not funded through the general school budget. "The money is vitally important to our school to provide student incentives, additional equipment, novels, testing material, and technology that enriches our student's educational experiences," said Bill Pendrey, school principal. The sale will continue through October 31.
Washington-Wilkes Middle School celebrated "Blue Out" day in anticipation of the football game against Lincoln County, Friday, with a contest for most "Blue Out" spirit. Winners were Ramona Lott and Kelsey Brooke, both in the eighth grade. The Junior Beta Club is sponsoring its annual "Have a Heart" fundraiser this week for the Nancy C. Long golf tournament to raise money for cancer. Paper hearts will be sold for 25 cents each. Students can dedicate their hearts in memory of, or in honor of someone, or they can just write their name on the hearts. The hearts will be placed on a banner that will be displayed at the golf tournament October 25.
Don't forget to eat at Pizza Hut Tuesday nights in October from 5:30 until 8 to support W-WMS! Twenty percent of the total purchases will be donated to our school. We greatly appreciate Pizza Hut and our community for their support.
