A gazebo makes a wonderful focal point for a community or town. Tignall has its focal point now with the construction expertise of John Yochim. We have a great looking gazebo with the school bell on top, housed on the front grounds of the old school location. This could be a perfect place for pictures, speakers for the community, a musician, or lights at Christmas. When the benches are added, one can come and sit a spell and enjoy the peacefulness in our community. There are many possibilities. Give us your ideas. Donations toward the completion of this gazebo with benches would be appreciated. ƒFrom all reports the ladies retreat with Women's Ministries from Mallorysville Baptist and Tignall Baptist churches was an awesome and inspirational weekend in Toccoa with 41 attending. Guest speaker was Susan Connor, a conference speaker and wife of the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Monroe. The theme was "Surviving the Storms." Lori Tucker had put together a slide show of their weekend and shared it during the worship hour at Tignall Baptist Church Sunday. Several other women shared their experiences of the retreat. They did all things that women know how to do best; they talked, they laughed, they cried, and they ate lots of chocolate. There seemed to be a purple wave at Tignall Baptist with all the purple tee shirts worn by the women who attended the retreat. Rev. Dale Fincher did not attend with the women, but he had begged for one of those purple tee shirts and had it on Sunday. Kenny Long also gave his testimony in song. After the worship hour the youth sponsored a soup and sandwich lunch at the church. It was a perfect day for soup since it was a chilly day. ƒ Mike and Miriam Bobo of Mc- Donough spent the weekend with Graydon and Pat Bobo. Miriam went on the ladies retreat in Toccoa with Pat. ƒMyrline Thornton spent a week with Mary and Rudy Jacobs in Monticello. Myrline seems to be getting stronger each day. ƒFor those of you who enjoy good deals, Robin Bunch (daughter-in-law of Zan and Margie Bunch and sister of Gloria Ware) is having a Jack and Jill adult gently-used fall and winter clothes sale. I bought lots of good children's clothes a few weeks ago. She is having this sale at 148 Hulin Avenue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week. We need all the help we can get with the economy problems we have now. ƒLayton and Gloria Harris and Curtis and Robbie Tanner spent Thursday through Sunday in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Joining them in Pigeon Forge were their friends, Jim and Mary Alice Belk and Shirley Garrett of Lancaster, S.C., and Estelle Davis of Catawba, S.C. They had fun with shows, shopping and eating. This is an annual trip for the friends. ƒHugh Keener killed a rabid raccoon in their back yard last week. So be sure your pets have their rabies shots. ƒRicky and Wanda Cox and about 25 people from their church, Heritage Baptist, went to the Atlanta Zoo Saturday. They all enjoyed a picnic lunch on the grounds afterward. ƒKathy Ware is spending the week in San Francisco, California, in a company meeting. I understand Scott and Stacey are talking about having a party while mom is gone. ƒDanny and Tammy Price, Eric, Angie, and Jonathan Nicholson enjoyed riding horseback through the mountains last Saturday. They had lunch in Helen and then went on to Sunburst Stables in Clarkesville where they rode the horses. They rode by an old moonshine still where there was someone there to tell the history of the still. They had a beautiful day for this outing. ƒLast week Nita Riley visited with her granddaughter, Elizabeth Edwards in Hendersonville, N.C. ƒLeon and Linda Aybock joined Otis and Pat Callaway and Brian and Tonya Callaway at the Augusta Fair for the heifer and steer show Saturday. Grandson Greg Callaway won a second place and reserve champion. The Aycocks go to fairs every week to see their grandson Greg win ribbon after ribbon and John and Nonie Yochim go to ball games every weekend to see grandson Charlie McAvoy play ball. We'll go anywhere for these grandchildren won't we? Isn't it great that we are able to be there for them? ƒCongratulations to Louise Harper. She has a new great-grandson, Joshua Wayne Brannen, born October 9 to Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Brannen in Jackson, Mississippi, weighing 7 lbs. 15 ozs. ƒWe wish a get well to Kay Blakey, Brenda Bruce (daughter of Elaine Whittington Baker), Tom Butler, and Dorothy Walker. ƒThe Beulah Fall Festival sponsored by Beulah Baptist Church will be Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m. There will be lots of games and plenty of food. They plan to eat at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. ƒThe Beulah Fire Department had a successful barbecue last week. ƒSunday night, October 26, there will be a trunk or treat for the AWANA kids at Tignall Baptist. They need people to show up with bags of candy. ƒLet's keep in mind the Tignall Baptist Church homecoming on November 16. Dr. Rick Standard will be preaching that day. Join us for this celebration and homecoming.
