Management changes at Art Gallery La Place on the Square
The fall season brings change, and things are changing at the Art Gallery La Place on the Square in Washington. Washington-Wilkes Ventures, LLC (WWV) and Anne Jenkins, artist and owner of The Point of Art Gallery in Union Point, have announced that Jenkins has taken over the management of the gallery. The change is effective immediately.
WWV expressed its appreciation to former manager Debbie Wells "for all her hard work and dedication" and wished her well in her new endeavors.
The gallery's focus will be on affordable fine art, folk art, and fun art. The gallery intends primarily to feature local Georgia artists, with visiting artists from neighboring states. The front of the gallery will feature paintings, sculptures, small pieces of handmade furniture, and decorative glass work. The back quarter will become "La Pottery Place," with numerous potters' work available "so there's lots of variety," Jenkins noted.
"We have such a wealth of great talent right on our back doorstep in Washington and in nearby Greensboro, Eatonton, Augusta, and Athens to name a few places," Jenkins said. "It's going to be very exciting and the shows will change out every few weeks to keep it fresh and interesting."
Jenkins also noted that Janice McAvoy will be staying on as the gallery assistant.
While the changes are taking place, the gallery is showing the paintings of Cathy McIntire of Newborn, Will Eskridge of Athens, David Boyd Jr. of Gay, David Siffert of Greensboro, and Anne Jenkins of Union Point. Decorative glass by Gil Glass of Winder is also on display as are raku sculptures by Christina Sullo of Jefferson and small handmade tables by Bill Sleighter of Washington. The pottery is by Tierney Rollins of Augusta, Betsy Borgatti of Martinez, Katie McFarland of Watkinsville, and Elizabeth Reynolds of North Augusta.
The gallery has now joined the Art Ramble, a group of galleries and studios in Greensboro and Union Point. The galleries will be holding a "Holiday Ramble," for an open house weekend, November 14-16. Each business will have artist demonstrations, blue tag sales, special events, mulled wine or hot chocolate, and "lots of fun stuff," Jenkins said. The Ramble's website is www.artramble.com.
"We'll also have interesting events during the Art Fest weekend of November 8-9 to help promote Washington as a great town to visit," Jenkins added. "I'm excited to be here and I want everyone to have a fun experience buying art right here on our lovely historic Square."
