Funeral services for Walter Lee Elam Jr., 49, were held October 10, 2008, at McLendon Memorial Funeral Home, Washington, with Rev. Dennis Quinn officiating. He died October 2. Interment was in City West Cemetery, Washington.

Mr. Elam was the son of the late Walter Lee Elam and Mary F. Jennings.

Survivors include seven brothers, Michael Elam, Thomas Milton Elam, and James Garnett of Washington, Mitchell Michael Elam and Willie Elam of Lincolnton, Walter Lee Elam III of Fayetteville, N.C., and J.C. Jennings of Houston, Texas; and four sisters, Delois Brown, Patsy Marie Elam, and Jackie Harris of Lincolnton, and Betty Lee Elam of Atlanta.
