The fall weather is expected to be perfect for Saturday's Seventh Annual "I'd Rather Be in Tignall" Fall Festival, which will bring fun for all ages to the old school grounds in Tignall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

North Wilkes Steering Committee organizer Carolyn Gammon said the seventh annual festival promises to be more fun than ever, with bingo, cake walks, food, and live music all day. "Come out and enjoy visiting with old and new friends," she said. "Bring your children and have a day of fun."

The day will start with pancakes and sausage for early arrivals and workers at Independence United Methodist. Mayor Richard Gammon will open the festival at 10, with an invocation by Rev. Edward Andrews and the National Anthem by Amanda Range. The cakewalk begins at 10:15, Bingo from 11 a.m. to 12:30 and again at 1:30.

For children, the festival will offer hay rides, horseback riding, face painting, a moon walk and slide, a putting green, and a kids' fashion show set for 10:45 a.m.

Organizers say food vendors will include barbecue, funnel cakes, cheesy fries, hot dogs and burgers, plus the Homemakers' famous vegetable soup and Rock Evans' boiled peanuts.

The highlight of this year's festival, organizers say, is the beautiful handmade quilt made by the Homemakers Club that will be given away in a drawing at 3 p.m.

Another highlight is expected to be generations of old photos of North Wilkes displayed around the old school lunchroom. "Many people will enjoy taking a trip down Memory Lane at the old photo display in the lunchroom," Gammon said.
