Christmas at Callaway Plantation will be held this year on Friday, December 12, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. The Plantation is located five miles west of Washington on Highway 78 across from the Washington-Wilkes Airport.

As is the custom each year, rooms in the Brick House , the School House, Grey House, Log Cabin, Dally Cabin, Gilmer House, and Weaving/Ironing House are decorated by volunteers, featuring the time period of each building.

Decorating will begin on December 9 and Damonica Lee and Albert Patterson, co-chairmen for the celebration and tour, are asking for volunteers to sign-up for the rooms and areas they prefer to decorate by calling 706-678-7060 during regular hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Cedar, holly, smilax, magnolia leaves, and mistletoe from the woods around Callaway Plantation will be cut and provided by city workers.

Following is a list of the time period for each location. Decorators are asked to use these times and styles in their decorating.

The Brick House, 1869, with 14 rooms and areas to be decorated; School House, 1891; Grey House, 1790, with four rooms; Log Cabin, 1785; Country Store and Porch, 1930; Dally Cabin, 1840; Gilmer House and porch, 1808; and the weaving and ironing house and porch, 1860.

Signs indicating who or what business decorated the area will be provided for the tour and open house.
