Graveside services for Henry Mayes, 68, of Holliday Park Road, Wilkes County, were held Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Zoah Church Cemetery with Rev. Howard Harmon officiating. He died Tuesday, October 21, at his residence.

Mr. Mayes was a resident of Wilkes County and the son of the late Dave Mayes and Sarah Cox. He was a dedicated family member who always gave a helping hand. In his early years he worked hard to support his family with good faith as a father and friend.

Survivors include three daughters, Chrystal Mayes of New York, Shantel Mayes of Lincolnton, and Veronica Simmons of Augusta; a son, La'Keith Lockhart of Lincolnton; three sisters, Laura Bell Kennedy of Lincolnton, Lucinda Tutt and Geannette Porter of Washington; a brother, Charles Mayes, Washington; and a host of grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Terry Harris, Walter Kennedy Jr., Edward Mayes, Gary Mayes, Raymond Porter, Donnie Reid, and Arthur Willis.

Davenport-McLendon Mortuary Inc. of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
