Friend of Youth auction, barbecue to be held Nov. 13
      The annual Optimist Club Friend of Youth (FOY) Auction and Barbecue will be held Thursday, November 13, at the VFW Post 5899 on Andrew Drive in Washington. Pork barbecue, stew, and all the trimmings prepared by Frank Bentley will be available for eat-in or take-out beginning at 5 p.m.

'Tree of Love' to be sponsored again by WMH Auxiliary
      The Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor its second annual "Christmas Tree of Love" by receiving donations in memory of and in honor of loved ones to light the evergreen tree on the courthouse lawn. The lights will serve as a symbolic tribute to those who are honored or remembered. Members of the Auxiliary are asking for a donation of $5.

7th 'I'd Rather Be in Tignall' festival sees perfect weather, good crowds
      What a wonderful day for a festival! That was the kind of day we had in Tignall Saturday. It has been perfect weather for seven years, but Saturday was warm enough to have food vendors selling out of ice cold drinks. The little stagecoach horse rides, hayride and face painting made a big hit with the children.

Exciting activities fill eventful Sun. at Sardis Baptist Church
      Sunday was an exciting day at Sardis Baptist Church. Pam Hall played the piano as Joyce Fry led in the congregational singing. Praises and prayer requests were given and prayer. Amanda Land was very impressive in leading the little children in singing "Heads, shoulders, knees, and toes." They received a big deserving applause from the congregation.

      Parker and Sabrina Jordan, children of Linda and Jamie Jordan, helped grow two amazingly large pumpkins in the garden of their grandfather, Larry Jordan, in Wilkes County. The pumpkins weigh in at 95 and 102 lbs.

W-WMS and Junior Betas contribute to Nancy C. Long Fund-raiser
      The students and faculty at W-WMS, along with the Junior Beta Club members, raised $793.90 for the Beta Sigma Phi Nancy C. Long Cancer fundraiser. The students contributed money to the fund-raiser and were then allowed to wear their shirttails untucked, hats and sunglasses in the building, and their bedroom shoes at school. Also, teachers paid $5.

Tiger Band scores 'Excellent' in Old South Classic competition
      The Tiger Band scored an overall rating of Excellent in Newnan's "Old South Classic" competition on November 1. Twenty-four bands competed in Class A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA. Other ratings for the Tiger Band include a rating of Excellent for both Percussion and Cologuard and a rating of Superior for drum major Evan Harrison and majorettes Ashley West and Lauren Harrison.

No injuries in dramatic Tignall Road crash
      A 32-foot travel trailer sits on its roof on the side of the Tignall Road Monday afternoon after being hit by the driver of a white Honda Accord. Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Robby Turner said that the Honda driver, Ayukebangha F. Agobobock, 45, of Elberton, lost control of his vehicle when he found a vehicle turning left into a driveway in front of him.

      The Xi Zeta Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will have the annual womanless beauty pageant on November 8, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School Cafeteria.
