Last Friday the Washington- Wilkes Tigers played the Warren County Screaming Devils in the Tigers' first home game in seven weeks. Washington-Wilkes made up for last week with a win on Senior Night by a score of 41-14. The Tigers kicked the ball off to the Screaming Devils to start the game. More ... The Washington-Wilkes Tiger Varsity Football/Competition Cheerleaders claimed their first region championship during 4A regional competition last weekend in Toombs County. The squad will now travel this weekend to Columbus, Georgia, to compete in the state competition. The Washington-Wilkes Boys Cross Country team took second place in Region IV competition and therefore qualified to run in the state meet to be held this weekend in Carrollton. More ... There will be a Washington-Wilkes Little League meeting Tuesday, November 11, at 6 p.m. in the upstairs office at Ashley Park. Anyone who wishes to participate in the upcoming 2009 Little League season is invited to attend. Officers will be elected and there will be a general planning meeting for the season. More ... Florida's smashing of UGA moved the Gators back into contention for the National Championship. By handing the Dawgs their second-worst defeat in series history, Florida sent shock-waves across America. Gator QB Tim Tebow also jumped back into the race for the Heisman Trophy as he accounted for five touchdowns (2 passing and 3 on the ground). More ... Tiger Head Coach Russell Morgan reports that last Friday's win over Warren County clinched third place in Region 7A which means the Tigers will have to travel as they enter the first round of the state playoffs. Chances are, Morgan said, that W-W will be travelling to Athens Academy for that first playoff game. More ... Akayla Barksdale was crowned Miss Parks and Recreation Homecoming Queen 2008 at an event held by the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department honoring youth football players and cheerleaders on Thursday, October 30.
