Bobbie Sue Johnson speaks about Romanian mission trip experiences
Bobbie Sue Johnson presented the program to members of the Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church when they met Monday evening, November 3, at the home of Susan Pope on Spring Street.
Mrs. Johnson returned Friday from a trip to Romania with the Walhalla Foundation. She told of the journey where they toured the areas and especially of her part on the trip where she assisted in the dental clinics set up by the Foundation. Mrs. Johnson was also involved in the purchasing of the coats and shoes for the children with moneys sent by members of the Baptist women's group as well as other members of the Church and community. During her most informative presentation, she also shared a slide show showing much of the area, the churches, the people and the clinics. An extended question and answer session followed with much interest. Mrs. Johnson was introduced by Mrs. Pope, program chairman.
Prior to her program Melanie Wells, facilitator, presided. Members joined in reading the WMU Watchword and Kay Nelms led the opening prayer.
A short business meeting was held and plans were made for the Week of Prayer for International Missions program on December 1 as well as the annual soup supper and night of caroling on December 8 planned by Julia Palmer.
Mission action plans were discussed and in addition to other ongoing projects, Mrs. Nelms encouraged members to participate in the Shoeboxes for Seniors as a part of the December project. These boxes should be brought to the December 1 or 8th meetings.
After the program, Teresa Bishop led the missionary prayer calendar and after names of the missionaries and those with special needs in the community were given, she closed in prayer.
Mrs. Pope served refreshments during a time of fellowship.
Members present were Louise McClearen, Kay Nelms, Sue Lance, Teresa Bishop, Melanie Wells, Priscilla Moore, Rosemary Hopkins, Jackie Gillispie, Julia Palmer, Nancy Madden and Susan Pope.
