Boys Cross Country team advances to state, will be joined by Jefferson
Tiger Cross Country runners who participated in the Region IV competition included (front, l-r) Joshua McLeroy, Nick Reville, John Pope, Evan Harrison, Jacob Davis, Chase Shelton, (back) Erika Jefferson, Dominique Jenkins, Angela Broome, and Ivy Safrit. The Washington-Wilkes Boys Cross Country team took second place in Region IV competition and therefore qualified to run in the state meet to be held this weekend in Carrollton. Competing for the girls, Erika Jefferson placed fifth in the girls event and therefore qualified individually for the state meet.
The Region IV Cross Country tournament was held last Thursday, October 30, at A.H. Stephens State Park in Crawfordville. Schools represented at the event included Georgia Military College (GMC), Warren County, Lincoln County, Taliaferro County, and Washington- Wilkes. The boys team consists of Evan Harrison, Jacob Davis, Joshua McLeroy, John Pope, Chase Shelton, and Nick Reville.
Two of the boys team members placed in the top five overall runners. Jacob Davis placed third with his best time of the season at 18 minute, 38 seconds. Joshua McLeroy placed fourth with his best time of the season also at 18 minutes, 38 seconds.
Jefferson placed fifth in the girls event with her best time of the season at 25 minutes, 21 seconds. She will travel with the boys team to Carrollton for the state meet.
The top five runners in the girls and boys event received a ribbon and the W-W boys team received the Region IV Region Runner-up trophy now on display in the high school's main office.
Coaches for the teams are Ann Harrison and Tanya Morgan.
