Tigers cruise past Aquinas, will enter playoffs against Spartans
      Last Friday, for homecoming, the Washington-Wilkes Tigers took on the Aquinas Fighting Irish in the last regular season game of the year. The Tigers came out on top in a wellplayed game by the score of 41-6. The Fighting Irish received the ball to start the game.

Briarwood Lady Bucs take third place in state GISA Class A softball tourney
      Six Washington-Wilkes athletes were members of the Briarwood Academy Lady Buccaneers softball team, which placed third in the GISA Class A state softball tournament recently. "We worked hard, and we finished third in the state," Coach Hannah Batrous DeMore said of the Lady Bucs, who finished the season with a 17-7 overall record.

      Number one Alabama proved its mettle in the bayou last Saturday with a thrilling victory over LSU. Georgia demonstrated its vulnerability in a narrow win over lowly Kentucky. Georgia Tech was embarrassed in Chapel Hill and Clemson has not been enough to overcome deficiencies on both sides of the ball.

Haugheys honored with playing of march
      During halftime of the homecoming game between the University of Georgia and Vanderbilt University, the Redcoat Marching Band played the 100-year-old "Red and Black March" composed in 1908 by R.E. Haughey, who directed the university's first band from 1905 to 1909.

Basketball registration begins for 2008 season at W-WPRD
      Registration for Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball is now being held. Individuals can register Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The final day to register is December 3. No late sign-ups will be accepted.

Haley Ward is homecoming queen; Guin and Davis are top Tigers
      W-WCHS senior Haley Ward (at left, escorted by her father Mark Ward) was crowned homecoming queen during halftime festivities last Friday. Also recognized were Lindsey Guin, Miss Tiger, and Dywane Davis, Homecoming "King." Below, cheerleaders lead the spirit-boosting activities at the traditional bonfire celebration on Thursday before the big game.
