Now we have to switch gears from the fall festival to Christmas. The North Wilkes Steering Committee will be sponsoring the Tignall Christmas parade on Sunday, December 7, at 3 p.m. Last year's parade was much better than in the past so let's beat that one and have an even bigger parade for 2008. Enter with your horse, dog, pig, golf cart, antique car or four-wheelers, decorated for Christmas. Let's hope all churches enter with a float. ƒThe steering committee is also having a dedication of the gazebo on Thursday night, December 11, at 7 p.m. We're hoping to have a Christmas tree with lights by then, so let's meet at the gazebo. Bring your church choirs and the whole community will sing Christmas carols with hot chocolate served after the carol singing. This will be a wonderful time of fellowship for the community. ƒThe Tignall Library and Museum now houses the old photo display that was in the lunchroom on the day of the festival. Anyone who did not attend the festival will get a chance to see these old photos in the library and museum any afternoon. Someone also donated some old Tignall yearbooks. Those are 1950, 1951, 1953, 1956, and 1957. There are also some of W-W Tiger yearbooks that some people would be interested in. I enjoyed looking at these old yearbooks Saturday since I had no children there for story time. I think people have forgotten that on Saturday afternoons at 2:30 you may bring your children for story time. I will be reading some Thanksgiving books in the next few weeks. I don't want to have only Becky Dixon to read to. ƒThere were a few out-of-town people who attended the festival that I failed to include last week. They were Sara Heard's sister, Ruth Cantrell from Augusta; Diane Turner from Hendersonville, N.C.; Carroll and Barbara Blackmon of Hully; John Joe Ware from Augusta; and Lynn Barton, friend of Glen Hendrix of Royston. We're always happy to see all out out-ofcounty friends return for the festival each year. ƒHaving lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Julian Wilson Sunday were Chet and Jared Wilson. Julian and Helen are not well so let's keep them in our prayers. ƒA group of people from Independence United Methodist Church enjoyed a trip last Friday to Highlands and Cashiers, N.C., and came back through Walhalla, S.C. Those going on this trip were Daisy Parker, Esther Dawson, Sara Davis, Becky and George Dixon, Betty Dobson, Carol Ann Brown, Dr. Sophia Bamford, Marilyn and J.T. Summerlin, and Gale and Rich Seibert. ƒDavid and Nancy Hilley attended a surprise birthday party and cookout in Commerce November 1 for Amanda Hilley, given by Stacey. Other family members and friends joined them for the celebration. ƒSpending Thursday through Sunday with Tony and Marion Hammond were their granddaughters, Lola and Makayla Hammond of Crawford. Their other grandpa, Mr. Grider, had surgery last week and their mom, Teri, was with her father at the hospital in Athens.

ƒDavid and Nancy Hilley met Stacey and Amanda Hilley and Owen on Friday for lunch in Vanna. Adam Beatles joined them for lunch. David and Nancy brought Owen home with them where he spent Friday night. Stacey and Amanda visited Nancy and David Saturday afternoon and picked up Owen. Owen is Nancy and David's make-believe golf cart and car driver. I know they had fun with him. ƒBetty Dobson spent Friday night in Elberton with Mark and Carol Ann Brown. They went to the Jockey Lot in Anderson, S.C., Saturday and they ate at Ryan's before returning home Saturday night. ƒDavid T. Hilley from Ocala, Fla., visited his parents, David and Nancy Hilley Sunday night and returned to Florida Monday. ƒCeleste Adams and Fay Durham enjoyed an auction in Lincolnton Saturday night. They spent a fortune and had so much fun doing that. ƒDavid and Nancy Hilley attended the Arrington, Beckum, Pennington reunion in Louisville Sunday. Others attending from Nancy and David's family were Stacey and Amanda Hilley and Owen of Commerce. They enjoyed visiting with family members they don't see often. Good food and fellowship were enjoyed by all attending. ƒ I hope everyone remembered our veterans on Veterans Day Tuesday. There will be a report next week on the senior luncheon Tuesday at Tignall Baptist Church where there was a touch of remembrance of World War II and the days when there was very little money. We're beginning to have those days again.
