Blackmons return from trip to Prague, visit with daughter
Steve and Eleanor Blackmon, accompanied by Raymond Hughes of New York, have returned from a trip to Prague, Czech Republic, Dresden, and Leipzig, Germany.
The Blackmons' daughter, Myra Blackmon, and her husband, Tom Holland, of Athens, are presently living in Prague where he has a Fullbright-Mosarayk Fellowship at Charles University.
The visit was delightful in every way with visits including trips to Prague University, St. Vitus, St. James, and Tyn churches where they heard numerous organ concerts. They also enjoyed a performance of Libuse,' an opera about the founding of Czech Democracy and their National Holiday which is much like America's Fourth of July.
A train ride took them to Dresden and Leipzig, Germany, where they were met by Jurgen Paul, art historian and architect in charge of restoring inner city Dresden. It is miraculous that the town square portrays its pre-l945 grandness yet has all been done since l992.
In Leipzig, the highlight was a visit to St. Thomas Church where Bach played and composed many of his glorious works and where he is also buried.
