Wilkes FCCLA officers attend Fall Leadership Conference in Oct.
W-WCHS FCCLA officers attended the Fall Leadership Conference at Jekyll Island October 24-25. Officers from the Washington- Wilkes FCCLA chapter attended the Fall Leadership Conference in Jekyll Island on October 24-25. The theme for the conference was "Explore the Shore."
On Friday, curriculum workshops focused on early childhood education. Later that evening, officers attended the opening ceremony with Kelly Barnes as the keynote speaker from TRI Leadership Resources.
The night ended with updates from region meetings.
On Saturday, members attended a variety of leadership track workshops that gave them insight on becoming better officers for FCCLA. After lunch, each officer attended STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) events training workshop that consisted of job interview, chapter showcase manual, "Teach or Train," STAR Events 101, and entrepreneurship.
The FCCLA Officers left the conference with a positive leadership attitude and ready to apply the leadership skills learned in their own positions within FCCLA. Officers attending included President Victoria McClendon, Secretary Kiwana Mayes, Treasurer Beunka Stephens, and Project Chairperson Wanda Turner. Sheila Callaway, adviser, also was in attendance. Vice President Mariah Crew was unable to attend due to conflicts with her competition cheerleading match scheduled for that same weekend.
