Tyrone News
A reminder of Phillips Mill Baptist Church's fall festival coming up this Saturday afternoon, November 22, beginning at 3 p.m. There will be games, then hotdogs at 5 p.m., and a hayride. Please feel welcome to come and be a part of the fellowship. S=Thanks to Skip Padgett and Deborah Davis who volunteered to be in charge and all who have volunteered to help. Like most things, the more you put into something the more blessings you receive. There is always a place for extra help somewhere. Who knows, there may be a child or an adult who needs a hand or listening ear. Food for thought. ƒThe beautiful flowers Sunday at Phillips Mill were placed in loving memory of Holice and Monty McAvoy by Dolores McAvoy (wife and mother.) Belated birthday wishes to Dolores who turned 76 Sunday, November 16. ƒSpeaking of November birthdays, John Hunter celebrated a birthday Monday, November 10. Irvin Swann had one Friday, November 15; Rebecca Turner, Thursday, November 20; Faye McAvoy, Thanksgiving Day, the 27th; and all others, including Rebecca King Chandler who grew up at Phillips Mill when her parents, Rev. John King and Frances King, were a team, pastoring. She is one of the head nurses at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. ƒCongratulations and best wishes to Brandon Berry and Erin Yearwood who got married Saturday, November 8, in the Chapel at Helen. Brandon is the oldest grandson of Bob and Betty Ann West of Phillips Mill and son of Chuck and Julie Berry. Among relatives attending from Tyrone were Bob and Betty Ann, Chuck and Julie, Bobby and Tracy West, and daughter Ashley, George and Tricia Stone and children, Lexi, Allison, and twins, George Jr. and Katie Stone. A nice reception followed. ƒThanks to all who took part in the lovely bridal shower Saturday, Novem- ber 15, for Leah Riordan at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Your smiling faces added to the decorations and your gifts were greatly appreciated and will be very useful., bring fond memories for years to come. Leah is the daughter of our music director at Phillips Mill, Bes (Mrs. Mark) Moore, and stepdaughter of Mark Moore who recently was elected sheriff of Wilkes County for the coming New Year in January 2009. Best wishes to Leah and Gary Burt on their upcoming wedding and to Mark for being elected our next sheriff. ƒA little update on some of our sick and shut-ins. Dan and Mildred Nunn McAvoy are blessed to have their oldest son Jerry (Jug) to live with them and give tender loving care. And their other children, Dorothy Ann and Jimmy Saxon, Curtis and Linda McAvoy, and Donnie and Claudia McAvoy, and their families to check on them and come when they can. There are health problems with them also, but they are faithful to see that their mother can keep her appointments with her cancer doctor in Augusta, etc. Other recent visitors include Henry and Faye McAvoy, Thomas McAvoy Jr., Warren and Ann Newsome, and Gloria Hardy. ƒAlma Lunceford O'Neil continues to be on oxygen at home, and having tender loving care by her children, Sandra O'Pry and Pat Tuttle taking turns, and good home health care nurses. She feels very blessed and appreciates all the prayers and loving concern all during her sickness. She still has her jolly voice on the telephone. She enjoyed having her sister, Mary Norman Boldin, 92, of Augusta to spend two weeks with her recently. Mary is blessed to be able to stay alone with good close neighbors. Visiting Alma during the weekend were her O'Neil stepchildren. Their father, Hill O'Neil, passed away this past summer. He is greatly missed by all the family and friends. ƒPaul Davidson, who is in his late 90s, returned home from the hospital last week, not doing well, and having to call in special help. His wife Nora, some call her "Norma," appreciates the prayers and loving concern of friends. ƒ I will appreciate your continued prayers as I have my third hip surgery in two years next week. Thanks for your support over the 50 years of writing. ƒRemember. God loves you.
