Tigers open basketball season Tuesday, will host Athens Christian on Saturday
      A young but talented team of basketball players took to the court Tuesday night in the 2008-2009 season opener for the Washington- Wilkes Tigers and although details of the game were not available for this writing, Head Coach Don Keiser is cautiously confident that the team can make the state playoffs again this year.

Optimists to raffle 4-wheeler Dec. 19
     Jackson Pope, son of Chrissie and Pembroke Pope IV, sits atop the 10-CC 4-wheeler to be raffled by the Optimist Club of Washington. Tickets are available for $5 each or five tickets for $20 from any Optimist Club member, or at the main office and downtown office of Farmers and Merchants Bank, at Farmers State Bank, or at The Company Store. The drawing will be held on Friday, December 19. You do not have to be present to win.
