Wallace Baker
Funeral services for Wallace Baker, 92, of Tignall were held Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Shady Grove Baptist Church, Tignall, with Rev. H.M. Easley, Rev. John Gartrell, and Rev. Ricky Lockhart officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died Saturday, November 22.
Mr. Baker was the son of the late Archie and Carrie Michaels Baker of Claxton. He was a member of the CCC Camp in Wilkes County where he met his future wife, Carnation Hill. They were married for 71 years. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he had served as chairman of the deacons, and in other capacities.
Survivors include a daughter, Antoinette Turner of Tignall; two foster daughters whom they raised, Dorothy Jennings of Tampa, Fla., and Clara Bell Wilkerson of Washington; three sisters, Olivia Porter, Estean Swanson, and Ollie Mae Baker, all of Claxton; three grandchildren, Alkeisha Davis, Aiken, S.C., Welborn L. Samuels Jr., Fort Hood, Texas, and Latashia Rayton of Elberton; and two greatgrandchildren.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
