Funeral services for Janet Lane Barnes, 68, of Scull Shoals Road, Washington, were held Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Springfield Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. Norman Williams officiating. Interment was in City West Cemetery. She died Saturday, November 22, at her home.

Mrs. Barnes was a native of Wilkes County and the daughter of the late John and Molly Lane. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Hal Barnes Jr. of Washington; five children, Gloria Irvin, Covington, Ruthie Brittain, Evans, Harold Barnes, Atlanta, Tracy Hearst, Lincolnton, and Stanley Barnes, Washington; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Alex, Bobby, Willie Frank, and Alan Roy Lane; and two sisters, Laura Cullars and Molly Chapman.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Davenport-McLendon Mortuary Inc., of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
