The Flint Hill Baptist Church will be having a 100 Women in Red program on Sunday, December 21, 3 p.m. All women in the CSRA are invited to help with the program. Evangelist Kathy Butler will be bringing the message.

The Optimist Club of Washington is sponsoring an ATV raf-fle. Tickets are available for $5.00 each or five for $20 from any Optimist Club member, or at the main office and downtown office of Farmers and Merchants Bank, Farmers State Bank, and at The Company Store.

It's not too late to remember a loved one with a memorial or honorarium to the Tree of Love sponsored by the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The First Assembly of God, Thomson Highway, Lincolnton, will present a Christmas cantata titled "The Name . . . Jesus" Sunday, December 14, 6 p.m., and Monday, December 15, 7 p.m. The program will feature the adult sanctuary choir, a children's choir, and drama. A nursery will be provided.

The December 25 issue of The News-Reporter will be printed early because of the holiday. Early deadlines for news and advertisements for this issue are as follows: all classified and legal advertisements, and social news should be submitted by Wednesday, December 17, at 5 p.m. All other news, retail advertising, and community news should be in by Thursday, December 18, at 12 noon. The newspaper office and Radio Shack will be closed the week of December 22-26.

Pompey's Chapel Baptist Church will have a pastor appreciation service Sunday, December 28, 11:30 a.m. Dinner will be served following the service.

Heard's Chapel Baptist Church will have a watch night service Wednesday, December 31, 10 p.m.

New Saints CME Church, 515 Baltimore Road, Washington, will hold December SNAP meeting on Saturday, December 20, 10 a.m.

The Reese J. Booker Scholarship program will be held at the Marks Tabernacle Baptist Church Sunday, December 28, 6 p.m. Minister Paula Andrews (daughter of Judy Heard) from the Unity of Faith Christian Ministries, Stone Mountain, is scheduled to be the guest speaker. All churches and choirs are invited to participate.

Wilkes Transit and the Wilkes County Senior Center will be closed December 22-26 and will reopen on December 29.

The Wilkes County Board of Registrars will meet Thursday, December 18, Room 323, Wilkes County Courthouse, 10 a.m.

Pompey's Chapel Baptist Church will have a watch night service along with Booker's Chapel and New Saints CME Church on Wednesday, December 31, 10 p.m. Pastor Dante Smith of Booker's Chapel will be the speaker. Breakfast will be served.

New Ford Baptist Church will have a New Years Eve watch night worship service December 31, 10 p.m. until midnight. Sponsoring churches include New Ford, Reeves Chapel, Pole Branch, Trinity, and Thankful. The public is invited to attend.

The W-WCHS Class of 1978 will meet Sunday, December 21, at the Pizza Hut at 3 p.m.

ƒ Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the usher board's anniversary Sunday, January 25, 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Brenda Nunnally.

Reeves Chapel Baptist Church will have a pastor's banquet on December 20 at 5 p.m. Pastor appreciation day for Rev. M.W. Gresham will be Sunday, December 21, at 12:45 p.m.

The Washington Presbyterian Church will have a Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols at 5 p.m. on December 24.

The Weekly Tuesday Night Fulfillment Hour (Bible Study) at Springfield Baptist Church will begin its 2009 sessions at 7 p.m. January 13. Focus will continue to be "Biblical Principles for Raising Children and Grandchildren."

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rayle, will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ Saturday, December 20, 3 p.m. There will be songs, poems, prayers, and a new ministry will be introduced. Seniors will be honored.

The next meeting of the Washington-Wilkes Toastmasters Club will be held Monday, January 5, 6-7 p.m., at the Mary Willis Library. Anyone 18 years old and above is invited to attend.

Phillips Mill Baptist Church will present a Christmas cantata during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, December 21. A live nativity scene will be in front of the church beginning at 6 p.m.

Teresa Graves Wright will be delivering her initial sermon on December 28, 3 p.m., at Parks Grove Church, Lincolnton.

The Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church will present a cantata titled "When Heaven Touches Earth" Sunday, December 21, at 5 p.m. The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be at 6 p.m. on December 24.
