Briarwood cheerleaders win state championship
      Two Briarwood Academy juniors from Washington are members of the Briarwood cheerleading squad which landed the squad its first state championship in competition cheerleading at the GISA Class AA state competition cheerleading meet last Saturday at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon.

Tigers bounce back with 85-75 win over Patriots after losing two previous
      Still waiting for luck to swing their way, the Washington-Wilkes boys varsity basketball team lost both its weekend games before bouncing back to beat Oglethorpe at home on Tuesday. Having topped Oglethorpe in Lexington already, the Tigers hosted the Patriots on Tuesday night and came away with a relatively easy 85-75 win.

Hyatt is early signer to play baseball at Winthrop College
      Daniel Hyatt of Mills River, N.C., is one of nine early signers to play for the Winthrop College Eagles 2010 baseball team in Rock Hill, S.C. Daniel is the son of Jim and Charlotte Hyatt and is the grandson of Rosalyn Adams and the late Carl Adams of Washington-Wilkes.
