Thanks for the help during a tough year

2008-12-18 / Letters

TO THE EDITOR:

The Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter was built in 1989, and opened in 1990. We are approaching 20 years of trying to help the animals that come into our care.

The year 2008 has been a hard year for everyone. This year has been especially tight at the Shelter due to the economy.

Donations are down, adoptions locally are down. Rescue organizations have been a true blessing to the animals at the Shelter. Our volunteers give of their time tirelessly to help out.

The fact that we have assisted law enforcement with animals left due to evictions really brings home how really tough times are. Everyone is trying to overcome and cope with financial situations.

The Shelter is holding a 50/50 raffle. Half of the proceeds will go to the winner, half to the Shelter. The tickets are $5 and can be obtained at the local veterinarian offices, from members of the association, and at the Shelter.

Anyone who would like to buy a ticket or help sell tickets, is asked to contact the Shelter at 706-678-2287. Why not tuck a raffle ticket into a Christmas stocking.

The original date of the drawing was December 15. The drawing has been moved to December 25.

Thanks to all who have and continue to support the Shelter in so many ways.
