DANIEL HYATT Daniel Hyatt of Mills River, N.C., is one of nine early signers to play for the Winthrop College Eagles 2010 baseball team in Rock Hill, S.C.
Daniel is the son of Jim and Charlotte Hyatt and is the grandson of Rosalyn Adams and the late Carl Adams of Washington-Wilkes.
Announcement was made by head baseball coach Joe Hudak who said that all nine of the signees will enter as freshmen.
Hudak also said that Daniel has had a tremendous career at West Henderson High School and is a four-year starter on the baseball team and a three-year starter on the basketball team He is a pitcher and has a perfect 10-0 career record with a 0.91 ERA. He had a 7-0 record his junior year, striking out 55 batters while walking only eight.
He was 9-1 this past summer with his legion team, striking out 97 and walking eight. He is a very good student, with a class rank of 20. He is a member of Quill and Scroll Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
"Daniel is the third of four signees who attended our summer high school camp," Hudak said. "We were very impressed with his character as well as his ability. He doesn't throw overly hard, only 82-84, but I believe he will throw harder. However, he has a good feel for two very good off-speed pitches. He is also a very good defensive player who could end up being a good hitter."
