Phillips Mill Baptist Church's Christmas program was presented Sunday morning, December 23, and went over real well with good attendance. Many children of the church performed in carrying out the story of Jesus' birth as the choir presented a Christmas musical, "A Night To Remember." Pastor Robert Rayner was the narrator. The musical included many familiar Christmas carols. Morrison and I were blessed to be able to attend. It's amazing how grandchildren can get you to push a little extra to see them perform. .The Phillips Mill Baptist Church would like to thank Bes Moore, music director, for carrying the children's choir around Christmas caroling on Thursday evening, December 20. There was a van full, including chaperones Mary Jane Scarborough and Jason Downs who joined in singing. They were out a good three hours or more as they made 14 stops, blessing hearts. Special thanks to the Adult I Sunday School Class taught by Mary Beard (Mrs. Jason) Downs for furnishing bags of fruit for shutins. They felt honored to have Jason to volunteer to go with them. She is certainly a walking, talking, singing miracle of God. .Mary and Jason Downs enjoyed spending Christmas with his mother, Tongee, and stepfather, Carl Rhoden, in Cumming and visiting her sister Esther and her husband Dwight Hester in nearby Woodstock. Esther and Dwight are no longer able to live at home. They are now in assistant living and send their best wishes. .Clinton Edwards of Lexington, S.C., spent Christmas with his mother, Margaret Edwards. Christmas afternoon after he left, she visited her sister Geraldine, and her husband, Wiley Jones, in Thomson. .Mrs. Mary Nell Denard, 94, always appreciates all the love her family and friends show her all during the year. Her neighbors really brought a lot of "Joy" to her Christmas and the children singing. I surely miss visiting her but I always feel her love and I'm sure she understands. She enjoys reading The News-Reporter and keeping up with families, willing to share news in this column. Thanks, Mrs. Denard, for your heart filled with God's love and being an example over the years, .The home of Virginia Stevens (Mrs. E.F. Rady) Hunter was a joyous and happy place on Christmas Eve night as all the children and grandchildren began to gather to celebrate and show God's love in families, beginning with a wonderful home-cooked meal shared together. They included Frankie and his wife Melessia Hunter; their children, Tara and Ron Johnson, Triston, Tyler and Brittian; Mandy Keller and daughter Cheyenne; and daughter Megan; Marcia and her husband Perry Kirkland, and their daughter Kimber; and John Hunter. Mrs. Hunter felt so blessed to have all three of her children and their families all together. We hope her health will continue to improve and can stay cancer free in the future. She has greatly appreciated all the loving concern and prayers over the last several years. She enjoyed having her nephew Bobby Lamar of Union Point to stop by on Christmas Day. .Helen Stevens (Mrs. Raymond) Lamar enjoyed having lunch on Christmas Day with her sister, Virginia Hunter. Later in the day both of Helen's sons, Sammy and Bobby Lamar, and their families came for their family meal and Christmas Joy together. .Dan and Mildred McAvoy and their son Jerry who takes good care of them all feel really blessed to have so many friends and relatives who do thoughtful acts of kindness for them all during the year. Among visitors during the Christmas holidays were Warren and Ann Newsome with a meal; Larry McAvoy with fruit; Audrey Barnett and Benji and Sherrie McAvoy, with poinsettias; and Barbara Wolters with Christmas teacakes. On Sunday, December 23, all three of the other McAvoy children, Dorothy Ann and Jimmy Saxon, Curtis and Linda McAvoy, and Donald and Claudia McAvoy and most all of their families came for a wonderful afternoon together. They brought all kinds of cakes and other food to enjoy as a happy family get-together. Their niece, Audrey Hardy Barnett, visited them again after Christmas and they enjoyed recalling some fond family memories together. A good way to bring a smile. .Everyone is invited to attend a miscellaneous bridal shower for Amanda McAvoy, bride-elect of Chris Sanders of Lincoln County, at Phillips Mill on Saturday morning, January 12, 10 a.m. until 12 noon, in the fellowship hall, given by ladies of the church. Amanda is the oldest daughter of Benji and Sherrie McAvoy, granddaughter of Thomas and Mary Jane Long McAvoy, and great-granddaughter of Mrs. Gussie Hardy McAvoy, 93, all of Phillips Mill. .Phillips Mill Baptist Church enjoyed a good fifth Sunday together. Sunday School was a little off but more came for worship. Mrs. John Howard presented special music and following the message God had laid on Pastor Robert Rayner's heart, the Lord's Supper was served. Sunday night was hymns of choice, and special music by Rev. Skip Padgett and the children's choir. This was topped off by a touching message presented by one of our college students, Matthew Hackney, a grandson of Jerry and Mildred Lucas Hackney, and great-grandson of the late Aubrey and Carrie "Bill" Lunceford Hackney of Phillips Mill. Matthew is a student at a Bible college in Powell, Tenn. "The Crown College of Bible." Let us remember him and all our other college students in our prayers. .Shirley Mann Dunn enjoyed having several of her children home during Christmas. Rodney and his wife Amy spent Christmas Day. Then on Thursday, daughter Melanie and her husband Dana Kent a and their children, Andrew and Hannah, of Augusta came. They all enjoyed sharing Christmas with their mother. .Here it is January 2008. Morrison and I feel so blessed to have each other after 52 years. And two sweet, caring, and loving children, Mary Jane and Lee Nash, who have been doing their best to see to our needs and wants, the best they can together. Our grandson Tyler is "all boy" wanting to help and entertain. He enjoys school and going to church. They went all out to help us have a very merry Christmas together. We were happy to have Lee's friend Jason Paris to join us Christmas Eve for our family meal. He has been thoughtful also to check on us. After an early breakfast and opening gifts, Lee and Jason went on to see his parents in Cedartown. Their musical was great. Our Christmas started a few days before Christmas with friends knocking on our door and calling saying they were bringing something. They included Nell Shedd, Warren and Ann Newsome both bringing nice meals; Barbara Wolter came with good Christmas teacakes shaped like stars and angels. Julie Hill brought candy. Laura Shedd West and daughter Hope brought a pretty basket of fruit and goodies. Clarice Tyler made several visits bringing cheer and Betty Ann West brought a windup Christmas bell. The good hugs and laughter were great. We appreciate all our many cards, phone calls, and prayers. God is so good. May God bless everyone of you is my prayer. - Priscilla Maxwell.
