Pre-Release prisoner donate gifts to community

Prisoners at the Wilkes Pre-Release Center donated clothing and other items to the Wilkes Partnership. The items were presented at the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce with (l-r) Chamber Director Donna Hardy, Carolyn Reynolds and Horace Jordan of the Wilkes County Partnership, Cleo Freeman and Johnny Huggins of the Pre-Release Center, and (rear) Ricky Cobb, center administrator.
Prisoners at the Wilkes Pre-Release Center shared their Christmas with the Wilkes community by giving items they received with Wilkes County Partnership After-school Program.

Several bags of socks, pajamas, underwear, and games were donated, prison administrator Ricky Cobb said, selected from the many items prisoners were given for Christmas. The items couldn't be used by prisoners because of clothing restrictions to prevent escape.

It was the prisoners who requested that the excess items be donated to the local community.

"The community has been so good to the prisoners with things like our Family Days," Cobb said, "and the prisoners just wanted to give a little back to the community."

"These items will come in very handy for our kids and for all ages," said Horace Jordan of the Partnership. "We really appreciate their thoughtfulness."
