Corps of Engineers now offering public land Adopt-a-Tree program

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Clark's Hill Lake will be offering an Adopt-A-Tree program for the first time this year. Starting January 11, persons with Lake Shoreline Use Permits will be able to adopt a healthy 4-6 foot tree in a 3-gallon container.

"Adopting a tree is a big commitment and should be taken seriously," said Park Ranger David Qeubedeaux. "Those adopting a tree will become the custodian of a tree that will be a real contribution to conserving the environment for future generations to enjoy."

Trees available for adoption are nutall oaks, redbuds, overcup oaks, white oaks, red maples, and magnolias. Trees will be available at the Thurmond Project officestarting on January 11, 2008. Trees will also be distributed at Cliatt's Crossing in Lincoln County on January 10 from noon until 3 p.m. Trees will be distributed on January 15 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the corner of Hwy. 378 and Hwy. 7 in McCormick County, South Carolina.

Tree availability is first-comefirstserved. There is no fee for the Adopt-A-Tree Program but those wishing to adopt must agree that the tree will be planted on public land administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Please call Quebedeaux at 800-533-3478, ext. 1136, for additional information in tree adoption.
