On Sunday, Tignall Baptist Church was fortunate to have the special music presented by the daughters of Wilbur and Ouida Maney, Ruth Strickland, and Debra Smith, with the song, "Beulah Land." The congregation would love to hear those two ladies sing every Sunday. It was beautiful. .Wilbur and Ouida Maney had all their family with them for the weekend. Spending the last week and weekend were Dennis and Ruth Strickland of California. Those visiting for the weekend with the Maneys were their daughter Debra and her husband, Greg Smith, and sons, Morris and Jelani, of Conyers; and their son, Billy Maney, and his wife Linda and their son, Andrew Baron, of Hilliard, Ohio; and grandson, Clay Kidder, and his wife Shanna, and Kimberly and Dakota of Ellore, S.C. This was the first time all the family had been together in a long time. .Happy birthday, Almond Standard. I understand there was a cookout at the cabin of Gene Standard's Saturday celebrating the birthday of Almond and Gene Standard. Larry Pullen, Christine Burton, Benji Hodges, and some of Gene's friends from his church in Augusta enjoyed a barbecue. On Sunday, Larry and Pam Pullen and Christine Burton took Almond Standard out to lunch in Athens at the Red Lobster and were joined by Rick and Laura Standard of Hull. .Back in the summer, I reported that Kevin and Amy Hanel would be having fivebabies. Well, four of the babies didn't make it. They were proud to announce the birth of Elijah on January 3. He weighed 10 lbs. and 11 oz., and is 23 1/2 inches long. Rev. Dale Fincher said it seemed like he might be big enough to have a paper route. Those of you who remember Kevin when he attended Tignall Baptist Church will remember that he was about seven feet tall. He worked on a hog farm until Almond Standard told him to get out of the pig pen and start preaching. So that is what he did. He went to Oklahoma State University and got an education and has been preaching in Oklahoma City but is now in Texas. We wish them the best with the big boy. Angel Lindsley had crocheted little booties and sweaters for fivebabies and now she will just have to give them to Elijah. I hope they are big enough. .Visiting with Louise Smith Sunday, December 30, were Eric and Shannon Smith Weiderholt and children, Morgan and Ethan of Bristol, Tennessee. Shannon is the daughter of Morgan and Sandra Smith who once lived in Tignall, but now lives in Hiawassee. Also joining them for the day were Charles and Elizabeth Smith and Jon Smith. .We are glad to hear that Pat Bobo is able to travel some now. She and Graydon spent the weekend in Bainbridge. .Mr. and Mrs. Alex Tyler visited Mr. and Mrs. Greg Tyler and family in Hoschton Sunday. They attended church at the First Baptist Church of Winder with the family and then went out to lunch in Jefferson. Alex and Kay carried birthday presents to Sydney and Jordan since they wouldn't be with them for the birthday parties. .Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Howell and Kaitlyn of Hartwell visited with Mr. and Mrs. Scott Ware and Stacey Sunday. . The youth of Tignall Baptist Church enjoyed their ski trip to Sugar Mountain, N.C. There were 25 people to enjoy this trip. One young lady had never seen snow before and they saw six inches on the day they left to return home. During this retreat, Rev. Dale Fincher did the devotion for the youth on love from First Corinthians, Chapter 13. .We extend our sympathy to the family of Inez Fortson who passed away last week. I know one thing, Miss Inez was a good grandmother to her grandchildren. That's how I got to know her when I was teaching. She was always with one of her grandchildren. .Let's remember Marie Bradley and Alma Arrington in our prayers. .I heard that a stomach virus is going around, so try to stay away from anyone with that germ. When I was teaching, I had a little boy who complained because I made a mistake on his report card. I had put by the cause of absence the word, illness. He said it wasn't illness that was wrong with him, he was sick. Well, when you have a stomach virus, illness just doesn't sound bad enough -- you are SICK.
