Rev. O'Neil Martin, our pastor at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church, has been sick for several weeks. He was unable to come December 30. Tommy Harwell of Warrenton came and preached for him. He did come Sunday but was still very sick. We hope he will soon be feeling better. .On Saturday before Christmas, all my family came and brought most of the food so I didn't have to cook. Those joining James and me were Mr. and Mrs. Philip Huff, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Branham of McCaysville; Mr. and Mrs. Josh Caldwell of Statesboro; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hayden, Ryan and Philip, of Martinez; Ray Branham, Whitney and Charlie. .We had a nice Christmas social at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church on the Saturday night before Christmas. After having delicious refreshments we all went into the sanctuary and sang Christmas hymns. .Mrs. Juanita Bradford and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bradford enjoyed Christmas Day with Mr. and Mrs. John Sutherland and Brad. .The home of Mrs. Iris Dyson was the scene of a family gathering on Sunday night, December 23. Her sons and their wives, Tad and Marcia of Jacksonville, Charles and Amelia of Elberton, and Lance and Sallie were hosts for a delicious fresh fishand shrimp supper. Joining them and Iris were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Spandle of Statesboro; Tad Hopkins III and friend, Chris Miliam of Eatonton; John Hopkins of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. George Averill of Columbus; John Averill and Madison of Snellville; Mr. and Mrs. Justin Turner and Harrison and Charlie Hopkins of Elberton; Mrs. Tom Caldewll of Thomson; Lauren Boone of Warrenton; Emily Appling of Athens; John Ivey, Mr. and Mrs. Roch Filipiak, Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer, and Mrs. Evelyn George. .Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer went to Bennettsville, S.C., on Monday to spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Coxe and Edna Sherrer. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Sherrer, Nikki and Jamie of Raleigh came and they all attended Christmas Eve services Smyrna United Methodist Church in Bennettsville that evening. They had a Christmas dinner with Edna. We returned on Wednesday after having a very nice Christmas with his family. .Sincere sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Willard Lance in the death of her brother, Jerry Johnson, on Friday, December 21. They attended visitation on Friday night at Albuttin Funeral Home Tifton and his funeral at Pine Grove Baptist Church Saturday. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foxworth, Elizabeth Barber, James Lance, and Keely Sarringer. .Spending Christmas Day with Mr. and Mrs. Willard Lance were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foxworth, James Lance, Elizabeth Barber, and Chris Conway. .Having supper with Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Atkinson on Friday night Washington were Mrs. Iris Dyson, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lance of Lexington, and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Lance of Oglethorpe County. . Gay Branham, Whitney and Charlie were among the members of Tignall Baptist Church who went on a skiing trip to Sugar Mountain, N.C., December 31 until January 2. Charlie learned to ski and had a great time but Whitney said she didn't quite make it. .Mrs. Evans Davis had supper with Mr. and Mrs. Scott Blaine Saturday night. .Mrs. Bill Scoggins, Hannah and Stephanie had lunch with Mrs. Evans Davis Sunday. .Dianne Butler of Columbia visited Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer over the holidays. On Saturday, James and Dianne visited friends in Danielsville, Comer, and Carlton. On New Year's Eve, Mr. and Mrs. Sherrer and Dianne attended a supper cooked by Rev. Wade Palmer and others brought food. After eating we all went into the church for a song and prayer service. Rev. Palmer prayed at midnight. It was a very touching service. .David Hopkins and grandson Seth of Augusta visited Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer Saturday morning. .Philip and Maedell Huff and attended the 90th birthday party of Mrs. Lucille Bailey held at the community center in Metasville Saturday. It was a lovely party with around 90 people attending.
