Susie Inez Stamey Fortson

Funeral services for Susie Inez Stamey Fortson, 73, of Tignall, were held Thursday, January 3, 2008, at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Cates and Rev. Al George officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died January 1, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Fortson was a native of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Carey Stamey and the late Lola Thomas Stamey. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Boyce Fortson Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Margaret Fortson, and Larry and Vivian Fortson, Danburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara F. and Barry McAvoy, Danburg, and Joyce Sifre, Danburg; seven grandchildren, Lauren McAvoy, Anthony Osborne, Adam Fortson, Marlyse Sifre, Marisa Sifre, Tracie Hulett, and Monnie Hulett.

Pallbearers included Adam Fortson, Mike Fortson, Dicky Cox, Anthony Osborne, Lester Gales and Furman Parton. Deacons of the Fishing Creek Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fishing Creek Baptist Church, c/o Roger Walker, 2221 Sandtown Rd., Washington, GA 30673.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
