Frances Wheelis WOM group meets at Pope home on Jan. 7 Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church met in the home of Susan Pope on Spring Street Monday evening, January 7. Melanie Wells, facilitator, presided and opened with a devotional, "Head in the Right Direction." Members joined in reading the WMU Watchword and Mrs. Wells offered a prayer. A business meeting followed and announcements were given. During the mission action report, Kay Nelms and Rosemary Hopkins reported on coats purchased for the "Coats for Christmas" project. In addition to voting on offerings for several causes, tentative plans were made for the Valentine party at Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes in February. Teresa Bishop offered the missionary prayer calendar reading from 2 Corinthians and focusing on "Confidencein God." Mission focus was on North Africa and the Middle East. After names of the missionaries were given and those with special needs named, Mrs. Pope led the closing prayer. Members adjourned to the den to view a short video on the project of "Coats for Christmas." This is a partnership project of the Georgia Baptist Convention and Global Resource Services to provide 10,000 coats for the children of North Korea where there was significantdestruction and loss following a devastating flood in the fall of 2007. After the video all enjoyed refreshments during a time of fellowship.
Welcomed was a visitor and prospective new member, Shelley Caps. Other members attending were Teresa Bishop, Cheryl Edwards, Jackie Gillispie, Rosemary Hopkins, Gail Hunter, Nancy Madden, Louise McClearen, Priscilla Moore, Kay Nelms, Elizabeth Pope, Melanie Wells, and Susan Pope.
