Wrestlers preparing for 2AA Team Duals

At
the halfway point in the Season for the Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestling team, undefeated Tyson Gilland not only leads the varsity with an impressive 38-0 record, but he has passed Matthew Young to become the Tigers' all-time wins leader with 180 victories.
John Lovvorn (31-3 this year) is in second place on that
list with 153 wins and Josh Cosby currently stands at 27-9. Other winning Tigers
include Ryan Scarboro at 21-9, Rob Lovvorn at 22-14, and Brandon Howard at 17-11.
The matmen competed against Clarke Central and Oglethorpe County on Tuesday but results were not know in time for reporting in this issue. On Friday, January 11, the team will travel to Toombs County for the Area 2AA Team Dual Tournament.

Georgia-Carolina Classic
at
Hart County
W-W went 2-3 in a Team Dual Tournament format. The Tigers defeated Stephens County and Hart County but lost to Frankin, N.C., Daniel, S.C., and Cross Creek. The losses to Franklin and Cross Creek were by one match. For the tournament, Rob Lovvorn (112), John Lovvorn (119), and Tyson Gilland (140) were 5-0. Brandon Howard (285) went 4-1 and Josh Cosby (130) and Evan Harrison (135) went 3-2.
January 3
Round-Robin Match at Swainsboro
with Swainsboro, Vidalia,
and East Laurens.
No team scores were kept. Each wrestler had 2 matches against Area opponents. Results were as follows: Ryan Scarboro (103) 2-0. Rob Lovvorn (112) 2-0. John Lovvorn (119) 2-0. Josh Cosby (130) 2-1. Tyson Gilland (140) 2-0. Justin Guin (145) 1-1. Josh McTier (145) 1-1.
December 22
Tommy Warren Memorial Dual
Tournament at Oconee County
The Tigers finished in seventh place with a 2-3 dual record. W-W defeated
Hart County and Monroe Area but lost to Clarke Central, Oconee County, and
Winder-Barrow. Due to the holidays, only nine wrestlers were available to
compete. For the tournament, John Lovvorn
(119) and Tyson Gilland (140) led the Tigers with 5-0 records. Rob Lovvorn (112), Josh Cosby (130), and Evan Harrison (135) all had 4-1 records. Josh McTier was 3-2 at 145 lbs.
December 20

Winners for the Tigers were Rob Lovvorn (112) by pin. John Lovvorn (119) by pin. Josh Cosby (130) by pin. Tyson Gilland (140) by pin. Justin Guin and Josh McTier both won by forfeit.

Winners for the Tigers were Tyson Gilland (140) and Brandon Howard (285) by pin. Ryan Scarboro, Rob Lovvorn, John Lovvorn, and Stacey Singletary all won by forfeit.
Elbert County 42, Washington- Wilkes 33.
Winners were Ryan Scarboro by forfeit. John Lovvorn (119) by pin. Josh Cosby (130) by pin. Evan Harrison (135) by 10-8 decision in OT. Tyson Gilland (140) by pin and Justin Guin by forfeit.
W-WMS wrestled a combination match with Elbert County and Stephens County The Tigers were 6-1 on the day with wins from Terrence Walton, Dennis Hagan, David Martin, and Will Lawson.
December 18
Tri-meet at home
vs. Jackson County
and Glenn Hills.
W-W defeated Glenn Hills 41-29.
Winners by forfeit were Ryan Scarboro, John Lovvorn, Josh Cosby, and Tyson Gilland. Rob Lovvorn (112) won a 22-6 technical fall and Josh McTier (152) won by pin.
W-W lost to Jackson County 60-21.
John Lovvorn (119) won by 5-0 decision. Tyson Gilland (140) won by pin. Axll McCarty and Matthew Howard won by forfeit.
W-W Middle School wrestled a combination match with Jackson County and Greenbrier. The Middle School won 12 matches and lost 3. Winners for the Middle School were Terrence Walton, Drew Bradford, Dennis Hagan, David Martin, Andrew White, Will Lawson, and Alex Hackney.
December 14
Viking Invitational Tournament
at Treutlen High School.
Tyson Gilland - first place at 140 lbs.
Ryan Scarboro - second place at 103 lbs.
Evan Harrison - fourth place at 135 lbs.
Other wrestlers with good performances were: John
Lovvorn 4-1 at 119 lbs. (withdrew before semifinalsdue to injury). Josh Cosby
was 4-1 at 130 lbs. and was eliminated from the semi-finals on a tiebreaker.
Brandon Howard had three wins at 285. Josh McTier (145), Justin Guin (152) and
Stacey Singletary (171) all had 2 wins.
