      The Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestling team defeated Jeff Davis County but fell to eventual runnerup Toombs County at the Area 2AA Team Duals held last weekend at Toombs County. Based on scoring criteria, the Tigers finished sixth out of 17 teams.

      The Washington-Wilkes Middle School wrestling team completed its 2008 season with a combination match against Oglethorpe County and Greenbrier in which the Tigers won 14 of 17 matches for a combined team score of 68-13.

      Legendary Atlanta Crackers and Detroit Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell (left above, shown with broadcasting associate Russ Hodges) will be honored in his hometown of Washington in conjunction with his 2008 induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

Little League sets meeting Jan. 22 at Ashley Park
      A meeting of the Washington- Wilkes Little League program will be held Tuesday, January 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the upstairs officeat Ashley Park. Plans are being finalized for the upcoming season and everyone is urged to attend.
