Lamar Cofer sees many changes during time at Griffin Store

Lamar Cofer retired from Griffin Store after 46 years.
At the end of 2007, Lamar Cofer called an end to the job he'd had for almost haft a century. He saw Griffin Store, in the Tyrone Community, through three owners and decades of change.

Cofer says he enjoyed his work and talking to the customers. He said he will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis but hopes to see them from time to time when he visits the store. Through the years, Cofer worked for Mac Griffin, Bo Griffin, and the store's current owner, Sam Scott, whom he respects and admires.

He saw many changes during his time at the store including:

The price of kerosene going from a nickel a gallon to nearly $4.00 a gallon; and

The price of a can of snuff increasing from about fivecents to about $3.00.

His customers know that Cofer usually calculated their purchase price in his head, but sometime used a pencil and a paper sack if he needed to.
