Senior John Lovvorn is awarded local DAR's Good Citizen Award
The award was presented last week by Mrs. Eugene Pollock, Regent, and Mrs. Robert Dinneweth, Kettle Creek Chapter's Good Citizen chairman. "Each fall, the Kettle Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presents the Good Citizen Award," said Mrs. Dinneweth, "to the high school senior who best exemplifies outstanding qualities of leadership, dependability, service, and patriotism in the home, school and community." John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lovvorn. He has received numerous academic awards at Washington- Wilkes Comprehensive High School as well as sports awards for cross country, wrestling, and golf. As a sports writer, he covered Tiger football in 2006 and 2007 for The News-Reporter. Lovvorn is a Governor's Honors nominee, a three-time Math League champion, Co-captain of the wrestling team, president of Future Business Leaders of America and is an active member of the First Baptist Church Youth Council. He has recently been accepted into the United States Air Force Academy and plans to major in civil engineering. His goal is to become a member of the elite Red Horse Squadron, which is known to be one of the finest civil engineering squadrons in the world.
Proudly, he says that "Patriotism is one of the main reasons I want to go to the Air Force Academy. America is free because of the sacrifice of servicemen and women, and I want to do my part to protect America."
