Washington-Wilkes Garden Club meets Jan. 10 at N. Wilkes Library

The Washington-Wilkes Garden Club met Thursday, January 10, at North Wilkes Library in Tignall.

Mary Webster, president, presided and welcomed members. She opened with an inspiring poem entitled "Worth".

During the business meeting, Mabel Johnson, secretary, and Celeste Adams, treasurer, gave their reports and announcements were made.

A special sunshine offering was taken up by Harper Smith who was attending with her grandmother, Paula Butts, and great-grandmother, Louise Harper.

It was noted that Dr. Sophia Bamford would continue as tree chairman and other officerswould keep their positions as well.

Celeste Adams presented the program relating garden tips and gardening news. She also read many riddles which the group enjoyed. In addition Mrs. Adams reminded members of the importance of feeding and watering the birds during the winter months.

After a blessing by Mrs. Harper, Mrs. Webster served lemonade with the delicious assortment of covered dish refreshments.

Present were Mary Webster, Mabel Johnson, Edna Lamar, Celeste Adams, Elaine Boiter, Paula Butts, Linda Burns, Dr. Sophia Bamford, Iris Corbett, Becky Dixon, Louise Harper, Sara Frances Henderson, Pat Mack, Edna Rhodes, Genevieve Thurmond and visitor, Harper Smith.
