Dr. Nadine Halliburton-Foster joins staff at MedLink here; WMH reception set Jan. 29

Dr. Nadine Halliburton-Foster has joined the staff at MedLink Washington, and in just her first few weeks on the job has seen more than 100 new patients.

"I really like it here," she said. "There's so much to do here, and it's so family oriented. We haven't really had time to get to know the neighbors well, but we as a family want to be a part of the community as much as we can."

Board certified in Family Medicine, with extensive experience in obstetrics, she comes from the staff of Michael Watson Rural Health Clinic in Bamberg, S.C.

After three years in South Carolina, she interviewed with MedLink and has joined Drs. Mahesh Duggal and Lester Johnston at the Washington office."I fell in love with MedLink - it's ideal," she said.

The number of patients she is seeing is growing rapidly in the first few weeks. "The good doctors here have been quick to refer women's health issues to me," she said, "plus I'm getting some patients from doctors who have retired or are retiring, like Dr. Hilliard and Dr. Kirk. But I like being busy - I'm used to seeing 30 patients in a morning, so this is a little like a vacation right now."

She is also part of the staff at Wills Memorial Hospital. "We're excited to have Dr. Halliburton join the Wills team and we all look forward to working with her," said Jane Echols, RN, Director of Nursing. "MedLink plays a vital role in the local healthcare system and Dr. Halliburton is sure to be a valuable addition to the WMH Medical Staff and MedLink organization."

"I was on call this weekend at Wills," Halliburton-Foster said, "and I was very impressed with the system they have. The nurses are very much on the ball, and I look forward to working with everyone at the hospital."

She and her husband, O'Neil, have moved into a home in Washington and are busy settling in. O'Neil, a computer engineer who custom-designs software packages for small businesses, still has to commute to Atlanta two or three times a week, and says he is looking forward to becoming active in the Washington-Wilkes community. "We want to be a part of what's going on," he said, "so we can form bonds and help build the town."

The couple is helping build the town in a special way - their first child is due in April. "I'm going to work right up until the last minute," she said, "and I won't take a long maternity leave. This is a very family-friendly officeand it will work out well."

A native of Montego Bay, Jamaica, Halliburton-Foster is a graduate of Northern Caribbean University and Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. "I graduated high school at 15, had my Bachelor's by 19, graduated med school at 23 and was in private practice by 26," she said. "I believe I'm good at what I do, thank God, and I want to use what I have to help my patients."

To help introduce the new doctor to the community, Wills Memorial Hospital is planning a reception in her honor on Tuesday, January 29, at 2:30 p.m.
