WMH benefit gala to hear top singer who has a Washington connection
He is the brother of Suzanne Norman's (of Washington) daughterin law. "It's a small world," said Debbie Bennett, organizer for the event. The gala is almost a sellout already and general sales of tickets has been curtailed. At this point, reservations may be made only by calling Sandy Burton at 706-678-2333. Meyer has traversed all four corners of the entertainment industry, making strong impressions in theatre, film, television and music. On Broadway, he created the role of Clinton Badger in MGM's classic Meet Me In St Louis and toured nationally in Cats as Skimbleshanks, The Red Caboose in Starlight Express, and Mike Nulty in Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Regionally, he has starred in Forever Plaid (Frankie), A Class Act (Lehman Engel), Crazy For You (Bobby Child), 42nd Street (Billy Lawlor), The All Night Strut and the West Coast Premiere of The Thing About Men (Man). Atlanta performances include appearances at the Tony Award winning Alliance Theatre in Disney's Aladdin (Iago/Razoul), Sister Act- The Musical (TJ) and the critically acclaimed Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris for which he also served as the choreographer. Meyer recently received a Suzi Bass Award nomination for his portrayal of The Snail in Synchroncity Performance Group's production of A Year With Frog and Toad. Most recently, he directed, choreographed and starred in Forever Plaid for The Atlanta Lyric Theatre. He will next be seen with The Lyric as Sir Evelyn Oakley in their production of Anything Goes, which will play The Ferst Theatre at Georgia Tech on May 1-3, 2008. His other creative projects include directing and choreographing for Theatre (Forever Plaid, Crazy For You, Hollywood's Heyday, The All Night Strut), Industrials (Shaklee, Avon, MayflowerVan Lines, Walt Disney Productions) as well as Film and Animation (Late Last Night, Kids 10 Commandments). In film, Meyer sang "A Whole New World" in Disney's Oscar® winning classic, Aladdin, and also had the pleasure of working with Tim Rice and Elton John on their first Disney collaboration, The Lion King. His most recent film, Leatherheads, with George Clooney and Renee Zellweger opens nationwide on April 4, 2008. Television appearances include guest-starring roles on Will & Grace, Good Morning Miami, Family Law, General Hospital, Fernwood 2nite, The E! True Hollywood Story, as well as appearances on The Tonight Show, The Today Show, The Arsenio Hall Show and even The Gong Show. In music, Meyer has toured inter- nationally and recorded with music legends Barry Manilow and Frankie Valli, and has headlined for Princess Cruises around the world. As an educator, Meyer created Music-Theatre 101 a unique and innovative workshop teaching the fundamentals of Musical Theatre, and co-created SRO, a year round Musical-Theater workshop for children and young adults. Honors within the music community include prestigious fellowships with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and A.S.K. Theatre Projects, master classes at Texas Wesleyan University (Ft. Worth), the University of the Nations (Kona, HI) and a grant from the Gillman Gonzalez- Falla Theatre Foundation.
