We have been blessed with some nice rain and cold weather and it is welcomed. . I enjoyed Sunday School and church at my church, Sardis Baptist, Sunday morning as usual. A good crowd came out despite the cold weather. The congregational singing was led by Pam Hall with Rebekah Echols as pianist. Maddie Gunter, Kaitlyn Porter, and Jeremiah Fry sang a special -- "The Twelve Desciples." Then the children went downstairs to the annex for children's church with Courtney Gunter. Rev. Skip Padgett gave us an inspiring message in the absence of Pastor Jim Newsome who was in Florida. The Sunday evening service was cancelled. Prayer meeting was held at the Echols Home on Wednesday evening at 6:30. .J.W. Boatwright has been under the weather for several days with the flu.Many others have had different illnesses that are going around. .Our sympathy goes out to Richard Burkett whose brother, Danny Burkett, passed away last week. Richard was in Florida all week to be with other family members and attend the funeral service. .Sympathy also goes out to the family of Marie Bradley who passed away last week. Ruby Arnold attended the funeral Friday in Tignall at the Baptist Church. .Louise Smith and Lucile Edmonds came over from Anderson, S.C., for a visit with their sister, Doris Walker, Friday through Sunday. They went to Buford and spent the night, then to the Mall of Georgia Saturday. They saw some pretty snow and stopped back in Athens to enjoy supper at the Cracker Barrel. .Tracy and Denise Armour, Justin and Jackson, and Audra Chapman joined other family members for the day Sunday with Manuel Wheatley down in Metasville.
.An ice cream and cake party honored Avery Hall Sunday afternoon for his birthday. Helping him celebrate were Boyce and Pam Hall, Lindley Hall, Norris and Frances Ware, Martha Hall, James Bowen, Stephanie Bowen and Cameron, and Clyde and Sandy Whittington. .Joyce Hall continues to improve in the hospital. Our prayers are for a quick and complete recovery. .Wes Tanner spent Friday night with Avery Hall, Boyce and Pam Hall took them bowling in Athens Saturday for Avery's birthday. Enjoying the bowling party with them were Hunter Armour, Jackson Armour, Lindley Hall, and Josh Callaway. .Bonnie Boatwright went to Fatz in East Athens Wednesday where she was met by Frankie Jones of Athens, Martha Jones of Bogart, James and Sharon Smith of Stephens, and Mary Burt of Washington for a nice lunch and get-together. .Peggy Echols and Doris Smathers gallavanted in Athens Wednesday after Peggy's appointment with her doctor. . Tangie Chafin's birthday was Monday, January 21. Haley made her a cake and she was treated with a supper Sunday evening with all the family at Troy and Shirley's. .Clyde and Sandy Whittington visited Gary and Kim Rogers, Christopher and Jonathon this past week. .Angie Paul and Ashtyn visited Johnny and Kathryn Shedd Saturday morning. .Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed visiting James and Kathleen Canup in Lexington Friday afternoon. They treated her out to supper at the Chicken Express.
