As we have begun a new year I want to take time to thank those of you who live in the Tyrone area and other interested friends for all your loving support, understanding, and encouragement over the many years I have tried to write this column. Through sickness and health many of you have been there for me. I have fond memories of many people who have passed on to be with the Lord for their faithful support. One lady, a cousin of mine, had 12 children and she saw to it that their
News- Reporter was renewed on their birthdays no matter where they lived as long as she lived. And she was very faithful to share family news. This day and time more people are interested in family history, working on family ties, and a little added information on ties with community and new generations coming along helps keep some to still take
The News-Reporter. I remember one family moving to
Washington back before Morrison retired as a city mail carrier in 1985, had been
taking the paper before moving to learn more about Wilkes County. As soon as
they learned that their mailman was Morrison Maxwell they asked him how
Priscilla and the children were doing. It was a nice surprise for him. .Well,
this "Old Gray Mare" ain't what she used to be. Therefore, I am asking for more
community input to be able to continue this column. More families taking part
make the column more interesting. I have not been able to drive in over a year.
I don't get out much, not even to church much. I count it a true blessing and
good medicine to write even in bed. God is so good and forgiving. . Phillips

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Nell Lunceford Thigpen of the Augusta area who passed away January 11. Martha had a diabetic attack causing her to pass out on her floor several hours before she was found, back in December. She appreciates everyone's prayers.
