Civil War Round Table dinner to hear of Stonewall Jackson's great campaign

General Jackson's Valley Campaign is recognized as one of the most amazing military feats ever accomplished. Three different Federal armies went after General Jackson's Confederate forces in the Shenandoah Valley. Each of these armies outnumbered General Jackson's troops. The Union commanders thought that General Jackson would be trying his best to slip out of the trap that they were making for him, but that was not Stonewall Jackson. Instead of trying to slip out with as much of his army as possible, he attacked and substantially defeated, in consecutive order, each of the three Federal armies which were after him and then marched down and attacked the flanks of the main Federal army which was facing General Lee in front of Richmond. General Jackson's military genius was clearly shown in this Valley Campaign. That is why this campaign is still studied in a number of military academies. Bob Tanner is an attorney practicing out of Atlanta and is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute. General Jackson was a professor of "natural philosophy" at VMI before the war. Tanner is the author of two books about the Civil War: Stonewall in the Valley and Retreat to Victory (Atlanta campaign, etc.) He will have some of his books available at the meeting for those who would like a personalized copy.
Membership in the Washington Civil War Round Table is open to everyone, and new members can join at the meeting. Annual dues are $25 for individuals, $35 for a family.
